IB CONTINUUM SCHOOL | SNA 360°

As you may be aware, SNA has recently received notification that we are now officially an authorized PYP school! Therefore, the School Leadership Team organized a mini gathering with all PYP teachers and staff to celebrate this remarkable milestone for the whole community.

Incidentally, this also means that we are now what is known as an “IB continuum school”, by virtue of the fact that we deliver all 3 IB programmes. From a parent perspective, being an IB continuum school means that as your child passes from the Primary Years Programme to the Middle Years Programme, then from the Middle Years Programme to the Diploma Programme, there is a concurrency and continuity of the teaching and learning process, thereby increasing academic attainment opportunities, not to mention a greater understanding of service and community work.
? Additionally, being a continuum school allows us to take a more holistic approach to your child’s education and affords us the opportunity to focus on personal and social/emotional development through the IB learner profile attributes in all 3 IB programmes.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO SUBSTITUTE PLASTIC BAGS?

For the past 3 months, the Grade 8A1 students have been developing an environment-targeted project. The main purpose of the project is to substitute plastic bags which can decompose into microplastic, threatening millions of sea creatures. SNA students came up with a solution of using fabric tote bags decorated with meaningful messages about protecting the environment.

This project is an approach to the environment that the subject of Design (MYP) consists of. A project of the MYP Design subject is developed in 4 stages:
1. Inquiring and Analysis
2. Developing Ideas
3. Creating the solution
4. Evaluating.
The exhibition ‘Saving the planet’ represents the last stage of the design process as the products are displayed by the students to receive feedback and evaluation from their teachers and peers.

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH TALK AT SNA

On May 31st and June 2nd, our Grades 10 and 11 students will be attending a talk from Dr. Eljona Cumashi, Obstetrician-Gynecologist Specialist from Family Medical Practice Vietnam.
The purpose of this talk is to guide and educate our students about the importance of Reproductive Health. As teenagers transition from adolescents to early adulthood, it is important that we are able to guide them on how to make responsible choices and become equipped with basic and practical knowledge from experts so that they do not explore on their own. This talk aims to answer questions from our students concerning their reproductive health. In these sessions the students will learn the following:
? Students will learn to identify and explain factors that can affect an individual’s decisions about sexual activity (e.g.personal limits, personal readiness, peer pressure, desire, curiosity, awareness of health risks, concern about the risk of pregnancy, sexual orientation) and identify sources of support regarding sexual health.
? Students will learn aspects of sexual health and safety, including contraception and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) prevention, the concept of consent, matters they need to consider, and skills they need to use in order to make safe and healthy decisions about sexual activity (e.g. self-knowledge, abstinence, delaying first intercourse, establishing and respecting boundaries, showing respect)
This information will help to keep your child safe, healthy, happy, and informed. At school, we teach students research-based information and facts. We encourage you to talk to your children at home about what they are learning at school and share your values and beliefs with them.
