The Middle Years Program (MYP) serves students between the ages of 11 and 16, corresponding to Grades 6-10. It is one segment of the International Baccalaureate’s comprehensive 3-level educational framework, which begins with the Primary Years Program (PYP), progresses through the MYP, and culminates in the Diploma Program (DP).
The MYP is crafted to cultivate independent learners who can connect academic subjects with real-world experiences, adapt to evolving circumstances, and integrate relevant knowledge with practical and social skills to address real-life issues, both individually and collaboratively. Students in the MYP are required to engage with eight different subjects.
The program’s objective is to nurture a spirit of inquiry, allowing students to appreciate and enjoy the learning process, deepen their understanding, and recognize the interconnectedness of knowledge. Students enhance their communication skills in various forms, and foster a sense of personal and cultural identity, showing respect for themselves and others. Also, they gain awareness of local and global issues impacting health, community, and the environment, and develop a sense of responsibility and citizenship both personally and collectively.
The MYP program is built around several core elements:
