International Schools of North America is an authorized school* for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme

The Middle Years Program (MYP) serves students between the ages of 11 and 16, corresponding to Grades 6-10. It is one segment of the International Baccalaureate’s comprehensive 3-level educational framework, which begins with the Primary Years Program (PYP), progresses through the MYP, and culminates in the Diploma Program (DP).

The MYP is crafted to cultivate independent learners who can connect academic subjects with real-world experiences, adapt to evolving circumstances, and integrate relevant knowledge with practical and social skills to address real-life issues, both individually and collaboratively. Students in the MYP are required to engage with eight different subjects.

The program’s objective is to nurture a spirit of inquiry, allowing students to appreciate and enjoy the learning process, deepen their understanding, and recognize the interconnectedness of knowledge. Students enhance their communication skills in various forms, and foster a sense of personal and cultural identity, showing respect for themselves and others. Also, they gain awareness of local and global issues impacting health, community, and the environment, and develop a sense of responsibility and citizenship both personally and collectively.

Academics

The MYP program is built around several core elements:

  • Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning by developing skills like time management and self-assessment.
  • The curriculum is organized into six “Global Contexts,” which help students link their academic studies to real-world experiences.
  • Each year, students are required to complete 20 hours of community service.
  • Students must accumulate at least 50 hours of work annually in each of the eight subject areas and complete a personal project in their tenth grade.
  • The program fosters international awareness through its diverse subject matter.

Ethos

We firmly believe that SNA is a school essential for today’s world. Aligned with SNA’s mission and MYP philosophy, the program offers:

  • A secure and stable environment that allows for personal growth during this crucial developmental stage.
  • Well-defined guidelines that help students discover their inner voice and learn to exercise their freedom in a responsible manner.
  • Rigorous academic instruction supported by a dedicated and caring teaching team, preparing students for high school, college, and beyond.
  • Focused attention on individual student needs, while also emphasizing the importance of challenge and self-reliance as students mature.
