Job Description:

SNA-HCMC is looking for an experienced WELL-BEING COUNSELLOR, to commence in August 2025. Candidates should already have a minimum of at least 2 years experience.

Candidates should be aware that SNA-HCMC is a member of CIS, is fully accredited by WASC, and therefore places safe-guarding and child protection at the forefront of recruitment. To this end, SNA-HCMC abides by the UN Convention on the Rights of The Child.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Well-being Counsellor at SNA plays a crucial role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for our students, and contributing to the overall well-being of the school community.

As a Well-being Counsellor you are responsible for:

• Support students with special needs and those at educational risk within the school setting.
• Provide assistance during excursions/camps as requested by the Deputy Head of School (DHoS) and/or Head of School (HoS).
• Uphold and promote Child Protection and Code of Conduct Policies.
• Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and intervention planning as necessary.
• Attend scheduled meetings, complete annual documentation, and participate in professional development.
• Respond to staff/parent concerns and conduct check-ins with boarding students.
• Conduct Risk Assessments for concerns related to NSSI and/or suicidal ideations.
• Collaborate with Senior Leadership to meet international schooling standards of wellbeing and pastoral care.
• Act as an advocate for students when necessary and liaise with families and staff as needed.
• Deliver programs/classes and support students as directed by the Deputy Head of School and Head of School.
• Promote and participate in training within the scope of practice/expertise.
• Assist in delivering all Child Protection relational services when required.
• Supervises the behavior of all students in the classroom, throughout school grounds, and on educational trips.
• Attend outside events as necessary to promote International Schools of North America (SNA).

 

Job Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Proven ability to assess and respond effectively to risks such as Non-Suicidal Self-Injury or suicidal ideations, including conducting thorough risk assessments.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to advocate for students and liaise sensitively with families, staff, and leadership.
• Strong understanding of child protection policies and practices.
• Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with Senior Leadership, teachers, and external stakeholders to promote well-being and pastoral care.
• Comprehensive understanding of child protection laws, policies, and best practices, with a commitment to upholding these standards.
• Ability to deliver well-being programs and provide training for staff and students within the scope of expertise.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle meetings, documentation, and professional development commitments.
• Flexibility to participate in excursions, camps, and external events as required by the school leadership.
• Awareness and respect for cultural diversity, especially in an international school setting.

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in special education, counselling, psychology, social work or related subject required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans and targeted intervention strategies.
• Strong knowledge of counselling techniques, including experience in supporting students with special needs, at educational risk, or experiencing mental health challenges.
