WELCOME TO THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS OF NORTH AMERICA
The International Schools of North America was established in 2005 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. SNA is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a USA based accrediting agency that is recognized by the United States Department of Education. WASC is responsible for the accreditation of schools, colleges and universities in California, Hawaii, and the Asia Pacific Region.
The International Schools of North America is unique among other international schools in Vietnam in that it offers a dual curriculum; an accredited American program aligned with the USA Common Core Standards, as well as the full Vietnamese educational program directed by the country’s Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).
SNA strives to inspire its students to become life-long learners, whose graduates will value integrity, cultural diversity, and the pursuit of academic excellence. Our capable and skilled international and Vietnamese teachers collaborate together to prepare students to be resourceful critical thinkers who are responsible global citizens.
Pre-K and Kindergarten Program at SNA
At SNA, we understand that the early years are critical for learning and socialization. Our teachers are especially trained to teach our young learners through playing and working together in a supportive, caring, and loving environment. Pre-K is a time for building moral character and understanding classroom norms. It is also the starting point for developing language ability through an English language immersion approach.
Elementary Classes At SNA
Elementary school is a critical stage of education. It is where students have their first real taste of what a classroom environment is like, and it lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Elementary SNA focuses on the importance of reading and active learning. We have outings and events set up throughout the year that allows the kids to have hands on experiences while learning new things. The Elementary Program at SNA follows US AERO Standards that are specifically designed for overseas schools. These standards are the starting point for developing a cohesive US/Vietnamese curriculum. ESNA is the place where young learners get a head start on the challenging educational journey ahead of them.
Middle School Classes At Schools of North America
Middle SNA is an equally special time in the life of our students. Starting with Grade 6, children become more concerned with their status, identity, recognition, and friendships with their peers. In Middle School, students will begin to work on group assignments and learn the benefits of collaboration. They are also challenged to offer their own opinions and work towards discovering their unique voices. Middle School is a preparation time that ensures students are ready for the rigorous work load that begins in High School. These three years are crucial because they mark the young learners’ transition into adulthood, and demand that they develop self-accountability and determination.
High School Classes At Schools of North America
The SNA high school program is the only fully WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) accredited dual-program in Vietnam. Students have the opportunity to receive Vietnamese diplomas along with recognized American diplomas. This special design gives students the option of studying in Vietnam or at a university abroad.
Our American program adheres to US Common Core Standards, and challenges students to keep up with a rigorous college preparatory schedule. We offer Advanced Placement (AP) classes in Mathematics and Science that allow qualifying students to obtain college credits while still in high school. We have a well-rounded staff of qualified and experienced teachers, many of them also possessing tertiary degrees in their subject areas. SNA’s full-term accreditation by WASC proves that we are meeting United States standards, and are offering a course of study that prepares students for studying abroad.
The SNA Vietnamese program follows the Ministry of Education and Training Standards of Vietnam. By continuing to study in the Vietnamese Program, students have the opportunity to take math and science courses that may offer greater challenges than their American counterparts. It also helps them to retain their traditions and have respect for their culture. Most students that study in international schools do not have the opportunity to attend Vietnamese universities, but by obtaining the MOET diploma at SNA, they are guaranteed an opportunity to do so.
Join Us on the Road to Camelot
SNA has a new theme, The Road to Camelot, the mythical kingdom where King Arthur and his Knights of the Round table aspired to create a new era of civility grounded in achievement and wisdom. The Board of Governance Committee, in keeping with this theme, has set the aspirational goal of reaching a standard of excellence in our programs. We make sure each of our graduates is competitive for admissioninto prestigious United States universities and colleges, and to help them achieve eligibility for scholarships.
In order to prepare the graduates, SNA provides certain College Board Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Students that score high enough on the final AP test will be given college credits for the course. These challenging courses give students an opportunity to experience what college classes are really like.
SNA offer support for students taking the SAT and TOEFL tests. Both of these tests are used as standard entrance requirements at many universities and colleges in the US. The SAT test measures students’ abilities in Language Arts (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics. Not all universities require the SAT, but a good score on the test greatly increases chances for acceptance into higher quality schools. The TOEFL (along with the IELT) are universally accepted tests that measure English language ability. A high score on this test will help students avoid having to take language prerequisites at university, and speed up the path towards graduation.
SNA’s accredited sister universities in the U.S. also offer partial and full scholarships to SNA graduates who pass TOEFL and SAT at the requisite score for admittance.
